Chemical Peel (40%)
What's it all about?
Chemical peel is a treatment that uses a non-invasive chemical solution to remove the outer layers of the skin and expose the healthier, new skin underneath. This treatment is not painful and does not require special pre or post treatment care. A consultation will be required prior to the treatment. The treatment itself can last no longer than 30 minutes; it includes a skin cleanse, followed by the application of the chemical solution which is left to sit for 2-5 minutes, the skin is then neutralised with a cream. Once the cream is removed, a hydrating mask is applied and left for 10 minutes, a final cleanser is then applied followed by the application of a High Potency C Space and Recovery cream.
The Science Behind it
The chemical solution that is applied is made from a small selection of natural ingredients, along with ammonium hydroxide, glycerine and 40% glycolic acid. Glycolic acid, being the main ingredient, works in a number of ways mainly through its exfoliating properties. It is able to penetrate the upper layer of the skin, known as the epidermis, by weakening the lipids (fat cells) that holds the dead skin together. This causes the dead skin cells to dissolve and allow the underlying, non-damaged skin to be revealed. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and due to its smaller molecular size, is more effective than other alpha hydroxyl acids and when used correctly can improve the look and feel of the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.
